Difficult wholes takes figures extracted from piranessi’s master plan and three dimesnionalizes them into an interlocking assembledge. Color and material serve to defamiliarize the initial figures and generate new readings based upon continuity. The design of the poster also helps to manipulate the reading of the assembledge. Having a similar color background to the majority of the object flattens the reading of the interlocking object. The figures are better revealed through the exploded axon in which the primary masses are pulled out of the [W]hole.
